During TechCrunch Disrupt, Openbucks launched the Gift Card Payment Network in the US and Canada.

Consumers can buy gift cards from trusted retail brands, like Subway, Circle K, CITGO, Hess and Sports Authority, and use them to pay for online games and online shop purchases. Prepaid gift cards are very popular in America. Americans spend about 100 billion US-Dollars on them each year and there are already numerous companies providing different online and offline gift card systems. Prepaid gift cards provide a useful online payment method which is ideal for people who do not have a credit card (e.g. teenagers) or prefer not to use them when paying online. The downside is that they generally can only be used at one chain or payment network.

“We are building the world’s largest prepaid distribution network, leveraging existing popular gift card programs,” said Itamar Kandel, president and co-founder of Openbucks. Right now consumers can use Openbucks gift cards in hundreds of online games, including Aeria Games, Artix Entertainment, Bigpoint and World Golf Tour –  and the company plans to extend this to more digital goods in the near future.
