WIND, one of the largest mobile network operators in Italy, to launch a mobile money transfer service in Italy. The agreement will enable WIND’s 21 million subscribers to send Western Union money transfer transactions directly from their mobile phones.
After registering with Western Union, WIND’s customers can send money from prepaid, credit, and debit cards using WIND’s Smartphone app or via SMS. Recipients can pick up their funds in cash at any of the 450,000 Western Union Agent locations around the world. Diane Scott, Chief Marketing Officer and President of Western Union Ventures commented: “This is an exciting alliance; one that makes it even easier for consumers in Italy to send money across borders and one that opens the door to broader financial inclusion.”
WIND has found an interesting way to encourage its customers to use the service: the user that initiates the transfer will receive a part of the transaction fee as mobile top-up to his WIND account.
